Over 85 DNA Bank
The North East 85+ Study is a planned longitudinal cohort study which will address basic questions about well-being and health maintenance in the over 85 age group. The study will recruit as many as possible of the residents of the City of Newcastle upon Tyne who turn 85 in the first year of the study (n = 900) and follow this group for a 5 year period looking at changes in health and use of care. Baseline data will include measures of physical and mental health; nutrition and lifestyle; functional limitations and disabilities; well-being and life satisfaction; and the use of health and social care. Follow-up will determine the incidence of disability, disease and mortality, and examine associations with baseline and subsequent measures of a selected range of clinical, biological and social variables
